Utuama Donates Relief Materials To Flood Victims In Ughelli South
By Sunday Apah
The PDP Delta State House of Assembly Candidate, Ughelli South Constituency, Engr. Festus Utuama has donated relief materials worth millions of naira to Internally Displace Persons camps in the local.government area.
The items which included bags of rice, beans, garri, cartons of noodles, biscuits, detergents, tablet soap, groundnut oil, palm oil, tubers of yams, mosquito nets, insecticides and many others were distributed to flood victims at Otu-Jeremi, Okwagbe and Ewu IDP camps.
In his speech during the distribution of the relief materials at the IDP camps, Utuama sympathized with the victims and urged them to accept the disaster as an act of destiny, adding that the devastating adverse effects of the flood are visible enough and the victims are in dire need of assistance.
“It is a moral responsibility upon me and any well-to-do person to complement government’s efforts in providing relief materials to these victims. They are in this situation not because they warrant it but because God has destined it to happen.
“My visit here is to personally commiserate with you in your most trying times. My donation is not in any way a compensation for your huge losses, as only God who destines the disaster is capable of doing that.
”You should, however, regard the unfortunate disaster as an inevitable act of God.”.
The President General of Otughievwen community, Hon. Michael Oghenegueke, commended the PDP candidate for the gesture, saying his donation was the highest they received since the advent of the camp.
While promising judicious distribution of the items to the victims, he called for prayers to prevent re-occurrence of the incident.
